it’s a craft, but it’s not spinning or crocheting or knitting….
it’s sewing! with the whole "dsl moves a bajillion times faster than dial up" thing, i’ve been doing a lot more blog surfing and general interweb goodness enjoying, and i came across this dress over at Bean’s place and i like things that change into other versions of things, and one seam sounded good, so i travelled on over here to get the directions and ended up spending like 3 days reading posts about it on crafster. i figured i’d just wait until i have some money (3 weeks off of work isn’t so awesome for money-having) and buy some stretchy fabric to make my own convertible dress, but then i remembered i never wear dresses because i’m forever afraid of big gusts of wind or having to bend over all of a sudden and flashing my flashables to the world. so, i decided a top it would be. i grabbed a jersey knit bed sheet (that i used like once and decided i didn’t like because i don’t really use top sheets, just a bottom and my fuzzy awesome blanket year round) and i did all the measuring and some maths, and ended up with a cute little convertible top with a flippy little skirt that is comfy and soft and awesome.
the color in the pic is kind of wonky… the top is navy blue.
i modified rostichery’s design a bit to make it more boobie friendly. in addition to making the skirt part shorter because that’s all the fabric i had available, i added a wider "boob tube" instead of the waist band to cover up bra parts without having to worry about the straps of the top being so strategically placed. my straps are also a bit shorter than i’d like, but again, there’s only so much fabric in a sheet. when i make another one, i think i want to use some cotton/lycra stretchy stuff, because i’m pretty sure that’s what my most favoritest t shirts are made of. maybe red or purple would be good or a really dark pink.
Get out!! That looks great!! Yours looks perfect!! I did a tester on a bed sheet and hubby blew a gasket.. So I went on to the fabric and you see what happened

That is wickedly cute! Although I’m pretty confident that the color is actually chocolate brown, not navy blue. You must be mistaken. Even if it is navy blue, I think a chocolate brown one would look awesome.
